Daily Bites – 1/5/14

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has a wonderful 2014.  There’s lots of change potentially on the horizon for 2014, I just need to make some decisions to make it happen!

2013 was a challenging year for me, I had lots of personal stuff going on and I’m just glad to say goodbye.  On New Year’s Eve, I took part in a little ritual to “cleanse” myself for the new year — I wrote some things from 2013 that I wanted to let go of onto slips of paper and then we went outside and burned them.  It may sound cheesy, but it was helpful for me and helped me move on so I can focus on what’s ahead.

In the meantime I’ll start back with the daily eats posts.  I took a little break over the holidays, but I’m ready to get back into it.

I go back and forth between going to the gym, doing exercise dvds at home, and doing nothing.  Right now I’m trying to break out of the doing nothing phase and getting back into using my dvds.  I have a TON to choose from so I really have no excuses!  Today I mixed it up by doing workouts from different dvds.  It’s a sneaky way to exercise for a longer period — I combine one or more 10, 15, 20, or even 30 minute workouts from different dvds and it doesn’t seem as daunting as one straight-out 30-60 minute workout.  It’s all about the mind tricks here.

Today I did the sculpt segment from Weight Loss Cardio Sculpt and the beginner workout from Weight Watchers Punch.  I’m not sure about the first one, may need to do it again to decide if it’s a keeper.  The Punch workout was good — I like kickboxing workouts and I’m a fan of Stephanie Huckabee’s workouts, so it was a winner for me.

After working out, I had a Weight Watchers chocolate smoothie made with unsweetened chocolate almond milk and some sugar free Torani Almond Roca-flavored syrup.

Then I had a clementine and a Nutrisystem cinnamon streusel muffin – still trying to work our way through this last shipment I got in December. Yes, the muffin is that tiny.

Yesterday we had some friends over for a New Year lunch — this year’s theme was a taco bar. I made crockpot salsa chicken and ground turkey for the fillings, had tortillas, taco shells, fixings and made some Mexican rice to go along with it. We also had tortilla chips, different salsas, guacamole, queso, and store-bought chicken taquitos for appetizers. For dessert I made some Mexican-spiced brownies (got requests to post on the blog, so keep an eye out!), store-bought apple cinnamon taquitos, and some dulce de leche ice cream. Needless to say, we have tons of leftovers so you’re going to be seeing a lot of tacos!

For lunch I made a salad with the crockpot salsa chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, salsa, a bit of the Mexican rice and a couple crushed up tortilla chips.

We spent the afternoon watching movies. I may have had a couple tortilla chips and some chocolate chips too.

Dinner was a trio of turkey tacos.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want some leftover brownies and ice cream for dessert. However, Mr. Spice took care of the leftover brownie problem by not leaving me any! So I had some dulce de leche ice cream with some of the chipotle spiced sipping chocolate I used for the brownies sprinkled over the top.

That’s it for today!
