My new motto of “fake it ’til you make it” is off to an auspicious start! By the way, I will always remember how to spell “auspicious” since it was my Waterloo at a county spelling bee in elementary or middle school. But don’t worry, I’m sure some other little brown kid won it that year. 😛
Anyway, drumroll, please . . .
I did NOT eat out today AND I worked out!
And apparently if this accounting thing doesn’t work out, I can make a go of it as a professional lunch packer. But more on that later.
I started off the day with my favorite breakfast sandwich:
In an effort to coerce Mr. Spice into consuming fruits and veggies, I bought him some V8 Fusion, which he seems to like when he remembers to drink it. I saw the “on the go” version and decided to get some for myself.
It’s not bad, really. For 100 calories, I got a full serving each of veggies and fruits. I know juice isn’t the best way to have them, but it’s better than nothing.
And now we come to lunch. I decided to branch out from my usual diet-y bread and cheap-o regular bread for Mr. Spice and got actual bread from the Publix bakery. Mr. Spice has been requesting sandwich fixings the past couple weeks, so I have been getting him hoagie rolls. They were out of hoagie rolls on Monday, but they had these cool looking French hamburger rolls. I think if you add a little French-ness to anything you automatically elevate it from the mundane. 🙂
For lunch today I made myself a sandwich of turkey salami, low-fat provolone, and green leaf lettuce on one of the new rolls. And some Parmesan and Tuscan Herb-flavored Baked Lays. Nothing fancy, mind you, but I got several comments at lunch about how good it looked. I was asked if I got it from the cafe downstairs, did I make that myself, and would I pack lunch for them?
My sandwich and chips was followed by one of these for dessert:
Even though I haven’t bought artificially sweetened flavored yogurt in a while, I got suckered in by the lemon flavor.
Verdict? I’ve gotten so used to plain Greek yogurt that I sweeten with a bit of Splenda or honey, that the sweetness of the Yoplait parfait surprised me. Once I got past the sweetness, the lemon flavor was refreshing, but this was definitely a dessert in disguise as yogurt. I probably will not be buying these again once I finish this package.
For snack time, I changed it up a bit:
A little bit of salty, a little bit of sweet — good combo! And it lasted me through my workout. That’s right, I said workout. We have a very nice gym in our building and I took a tour of the facilities before lunch. I also got a 3-day guest pass and went to try it out this afternoon. They have exercise classes, a nice selection of weights and cardio, and they provide workout clothes. Not so sure about the last one, but it does prevent one from using forgetting their clothes as an excuse. For me, the big draw is the convenience factor — it’s in the building, no driving somewhere else. So we’ll see. I already have a membership to LA Fitness, but I haven’t been there since January. The location near our old office was always packed after work and it was an older facility. And I don’t really pass any other locations on the way home.
Dinner was easy — leftovers! I was ambitious yesterday and made some veggies, tandoori salmon, and spicy yogurt baked chicken.
Okay, I might have had some chips here and there during the evening too. And then I had some ice cream as we watched a little TV after dinner.
And that’s it for tonight! Hopefully I can keep this up tomorrow as well!
