My new toy!

by spiceaholic on March 10, 2012

I obsess over things.  It’s just how I am.

My latest obsession was over my next camera.  I’ve been using a combo of my iPhone and my Canon PowerShot SX20 IS for a little over a year now, and it’s worked okay.  The iPhone is what I have with me all the time and the Canon is what I take when we’re traveling because of its zoom capabilities.  However, they both suck in low light situations.

Since I’m not quite ready to take the plunge and get a DSLR, I decided to look into getting something else, which would let me take great low light pictures, be easy to schlep around, and let me continue to learn about photography.

After LOTS of obsessive research, and by a momentary dip in price, I got this!

*insert happy dance*

Well of course my first picture was of Chloe.  It couldn’t be any other way.

Yes, Mommy loves taking pictures of you. You’re so damn cute, that’s why.

I moved on to another victim.

Then I took it out to dinner to see how it would do at night!

My friends Lopa and Angela had dinner plans at INC Street Food in downtown Roswell and invited me along.  I wasn’t about to say no, since my social life is about to come to a halt for the next few weeks!  Plus once I saw the menu online, I knew I’d be stupid not to go.

No flash, just the night-time setting!

I believe this is a spicy mango margarita.  Not mine, it involved cilantro.

Some fried hominy our waitress brought out for us.  I liked it, it had a kick to it.

Gotta have queso! This was not like your typical queso that you get at most places, it had chunks of chihuahua cheese, radishes, and thyme in it.  We polished it off.

Lopa’s paella.  I was jealous after seeing it.  I was in an indecisive mood, so I got 2 appetizers instead of an entree.

Spicy corn chowder with pepitas and chili oil.  Holy crap, this was good!  It was creamy and zingy, and I need to figure out how to make this.

Chorizo and chihuahua cheese empanadas.  LOVED these and will get these next time we’re back.  The savory chorizo was balanced out by the cheese perfectly.

After dinner we headed out for dessert.  Right across the street was Roswell Provisions, which I have to say was a foodie’s playground.  I want one of these near me!  You can get spices, oils, sausages, foodie gifts, coffee, and dessert!

For dessert options, we were eyeing the gelato bar and the cupcakes.  I went for it and got a lemon cupcake.  Perfect way to end the night!

And I’d say that was a pretty good first day for my new camera!  Can’t wait to play around with it some more!
