Isn’t that a gorgeous set of cookware? This is one of the reasons I love doing these posts — I get to share my food-geekery with you and share goodies with you as well! This, my friends, is what I will be giving away next week (you did remember to save the date, right?) and what my fellow bloggers are giving away.
T-Fal and I go back. Way back. Like around my junior year of college when I first moved out of the dorms. A T-Fal skillet was one of my first pans and I was given the advice to always have one since they held up well and were relatively inexpensive. It was great advice and I’ve always had a T-Fal pan or two in my collection since then. When we got married, Mr. Spice and I were gifted with a very nice set of Calphalon cookware from my mom’s friends, and while I still use them, I find myself using T-Fal for more “every day” usage. I’ve just always found them reliable and versatile. So when I was approached to review the cookware and participate in this giveaway, even though I’m in the middle of crazy fall tax deadlines at work, I said YES just so I could share with you guys.
The cookware set contains a dutch oven, 3 sizes of sauce pans, 2 sautee pans, lids for the dutch oven and sauce pans, and a spatula and serving spoon. This set should cover your every day cooking needs, so it would make a great gift or starter set.
One of the features I like about this set of cookware is the measuring marks on the inside of the pans. Sometimes when I’m cooking, I’ll need to figure out how much liquid I’ve got so I can determine if I need to add more. Usually this involves a 2nd pan, a measuring cup, a ladle and a mess. But now, all I’d have to do is look at the side of the pan and take it from there.
I’m also loving the fact that these pans are dishwasher safe! I hate cleaning up after cooking, and I hate doing the dishes, so if I can just stick these in the dishwasher once I’m done, then I don’t have to stare at soaking pans over the next few days. But we won’t tell Mr. Spice this, he’s my designated pan washer and what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him!
But my favorite feature, and probably the one T-Fal is best known for, is the “thermo-spot” in the sautee pans/skillets. As you heat the pan, you can watch the spot turn from a target to a red disk, letting you know when it’s ready.
All heated up and ready for cooking:
One thing to note is that you shouldn’t heat these sautee pans on high heat. Medium or medium-high is as high as I’ll go. As I was reading the instructions, I noticed that it suggested you season the pans prior to their first use even though they’re nonstick. I don’t know if you really need to, but I went ahead. I’ve been guilty of using nonstick cooking sprays in my other T-Fal pans before, but I think if I keep the pans seasoned I won’t need it and they’ll last even longer!
One fun fact I learned — if the pan handles have a hole in them, you can use it as a spoon rest! I did not know that until Mr. Spice mentioned it the other day. I don’t trust myself to try it out on the sautee pans just because I’m klutzy like that, but I need to test this out on the sauce pans.
So there you have it! As you can tell, I like these pans and I think you’ll like them too. A good range of sizes, easy to clean, easy to use, it’s a great combo.
*Disclosure: Cooking Planit and T-Fal provided me with a 12-piece set of cookware for review purposes. I did not receive any compensation and am not obligated to post a positive review. Any opinions are my own.
Don’t forget to check back here on September 12th, when my giveaway starts! In the meantime, check out who’s giving away these pans right now:
