Working it

by spiceaholic on January 14, 2010

I’ve had lots of stuff going on this week, I can’t believe tomorrow is Friday!

You can pretty much assume that when you work in taxes, that there is something due around the 15th of every month.  This week we had to finalize year-end projections for 2009 so that we could see if our clients had to pay 4th quarter estimated payments.

So tomorrow is my last day of working as a contractor for this company.  But this isn’t a bad thing, because I will be a full-time employee as of next week!  Yay for benefits!  I even got a title bump — no more “contract tax consultant,” now I will be a “senior tax consultant.”  Wheee!

Even though you may not have seen it, I’ve been busy working on stuff for Spice’s Bites.  If you’re on Facebook, you can now be a fan of the new Spice’s Bites page!  I just launched it this week and am working on what I want to do with it.  I’ve posted a few older posts from the Spice’s Bites archives, linked to some cool articles and sites, and plan to keep it light and fun.  Go check it out and become a fan! There’s even a new widget on the side of my blog for it!

***And for more exciting Spice’s Bites news, stay tuned Monday for a special announcement!***

Now onto other exciting events in the blogosphere!

Brandi of BranAppetit is celebrating her 1-year bloggiversary with an awesome giveaway!

Biz of Biggest Diabetic Loser is hosting this week’s BSI — cheddar cheese!

And of course it goes without saying that my heart goes out to the victims of that devastating earthquake in Haiti earlier this week.

If you haven’t done so already, please consider making a donation to the relief efforts.

The American Red Cross is accepting donations directly from their website, or you can send a $10 donation via text message by texting “Haiti” to 90999.

Thanks! I’m so sorry, but I totally spaced out on this week’s BSI. I even bought cheddar so I could make something.

(finally subscribed to have your blogs emailed to me, yay!)

I agree it’s incredibly important to make a donation to relief efforts for the Haiti earthquake, but I will respectfully offer two other options for donations. Especially after reading this article in the New York Times (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9905EEDF1130F930A35752C0A9609C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=2) I learned that it’s most helpful to donate to relief efforts that are based in Haiti or will donate directly to organizations based/already working in Haiti. Places like the Red Cross although good, usually have their money tied up in a lot of red tape and have a hard time making it to their actual relief destination. It’s important to support efforts that include people who are already familiar with Haiti and based there.

You can also make donations to:
The Clinton Bush Foundation
or
Partners in Health (through George Washington medical center)

Thank you for including in your the request to make such an important contribution!!
