Nature’s Pride + FoodBuzz Entry: Triple Chocolate Orange Bread Pudding

by spiceaholic on October 1, 2010

Last November, I spent a whole weekend steeped in jealousy as I read about all the fun that was going on at the first FoodBuzz Blogger Festival.  I regretted not going and decided I would try my best to go this year.

I’m still going to try my best and I’m trying to cover all my bases.

That brings us to the Nature’s Pride Bread Ambassador Contest.

As part of the FoodBuzz Tastemaker Program, I was eligible to receive a coupon for a free sample of Nature’s Pride bread to use in a recipe to be entered in the contest.  If I’m one of the 6 winners selected, then my airfare and accommodations are covered for the FoodBuzz Blogger Festival.

It looks like there are already lots of great entries, and I’m excited to submit my entry!

Triple Chocolate Orange Bread Pudding

Ingredients

2 cups milk

2 oz. semi sweet chocolate, chopped

2 eggs

1/2 cup sugar

1 tbsp. cocoa powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 tsp. orange extract

6 slices bread, cubed

1 oz. semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Heat the milk and 2 oz. chopped chocolate until chocolate has melted.  To do this, I took a saucepan of water, brought it to a boil, and placed the milk and chocolate in large glass bowl that I placed over the saucepan — an improvised double-boiler.

Set the chocolate milk mixture aside. In a separate bowl, take the eggs, sugar, salt, cocoa powder, and extracts, and mix together.

Slowly add the chocolate milk mixture into the egg mixture.  Add it a spoonful at a time and whisk it as you go — you don’t want to add all the hot milk into the eggs at once or else you might end up with chocolate scrambled eggs. Yuck.

Once the milk and egg mixtures have been combined, add the bread cubes and make sure all pieces are covered in the mixture.

Place everything in a square 8 x8 glass baking pan.  Sprinkle the remaining 1 oz. chopped semi-sweet chocolate over the pan and bake for 40-45 minutes.

Makes 9 servings.

What a chocolate overload. It sounds delicious especially with the addition of orange.
