Thirty is too young to start feeling old, right? And by old I mean not being able to stay up late anymore. For various reasons, I didn’t end up going to bed until past midnight last night and boy did I pay for it today! I wasn’t fully functional until lunch time!
A girl’s gotta start that kind of day right — with chocolate and caffeine, of course! I hit up the coffee stand in the lobby as soon as I stumbled into work for an iced sugar-free vanilla latte.
I wasn’t that hungry so I had one of my Cliff Z Bars. I love these — they’re the perfect size for a snack and they taste GOOD.
Like I said, by lunchtime I was feeling closer to human. We were supposed to have some training during lunch, but that got pushed to tomorrow so the we could do a webinar on tax stuff instead. Subway was sounding good for lunch, and it’s hard to turn down that 3.99 daily special they have.
Wednesday is turkey breast, which I usually get. I don’t like their wheat bread because it’s so sweet, so I get the herbs & cheese bread, then along with the turkey I get pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, olives, onions, spicy mustard, and oregano. Yum!
I also had some chocolate after lunch but for some reason the picture didn’t upload . . .
One of my bosses brought in Krispy Kreme before lunch and I took one in case I felt like eating it later. That later was after our webinar was over (2 hours of passive activity loss limitations will take a lot out of you) and while we were having server issues (couldn’t get much done since we work via a virtual desktop and we couldn’t log-in). Maybe it’s because it wasn’t fresh anymore but I really wasn’t into the doughnut and only had half before I chucked the rest.
Mr. Spice called as I was winding down and asked if I wanted to meet him for dinner since he was at some conference. Sure! We ended up at one of our favorite spots — The Vortex Bar & Grill. They are known for their burgers but they do a damn good chili as well. After much debate, I ended up ordering the firehouse chili and a side of tater tots.
Mr. Spice ordered what we usually get — the Ragin’ Cajun burger.
I am happy to report that I didn’t stuff myself and didn’t eat all my food! It makes such a difference when you’re not all bloated and achy from over-eating.
Remember what I was saying yesterday about not liking diet-y ice cream? Still true. I’d heard a lot about Clemmy’s Ice Cream, which is sugar-free, so when I saw it at Publix I thought I’d see what the fuss was about. Instead of sugar, it’s sweetened with Malitol and Xylitol, which are sugar-alcohols, and which can do quite the number on my tummy. Plus the first ingredient listed was CREAM, so I knew eating this might result in some not-so-nice side effects (trying not to be TMI). I like to think of this as ensured portion control — the more you eat, the worse the potential effects!
I tried a little bit and my first thought was that I could really taste the sweeteners (and not in a good way). My second thought was was how rich this tasted. When you’re used to eating low-fat faux ice cream, full-fat is sometimes hard to take. There was a good chocolate flavor, but I like a more pronounced chocolatey-ness in my ice cream. I know this ice cream is really popular with people watching their carbs because it contains 0 grams of sugar, so I can see liking it in those circumstances. But for me, the side-effects wouldn’t be worth it. Anyway, at least I know I won’t eat the whole pint in one sitting!
I need to call it a night or else I will be up too late again. And I do need to get through that training tomorrow, so off to bed! Good night!
