Super spicy wings, marinated in Indian spices, perfect for the game or for any time!

Confession — I don’t really watch the game when it’s on. To me, the Super Bowl is an excuse to snack for a few hours. Not that I need an excuse to do that anyway . . .

Rather than order food and wait way too long for it to be delivered, I thought it’d be fun to experiment a little and come up with my own version of wings. They had to be spicy, of course, so an Indian twist on wings seemed an obvious choice. And as usual, since I was playing around with spices I wasn’t paying attention to measurements. 😀

Super Spicy Super Bowl Wings

Ingredients

(all measurements are guesses!)

2 tbsp. ground coriander

1 tsp. Indian red chili powder, or regular chili powder

1 pinch ground turmeric

1 tsp. dried fenugreek leaves

1/2 lemon

salt

1/2 tsp. ginger paste

1/2 tsp. garlic paste

1/2 tsp. soy sauce

1-1.5 lb. chicken wings — mine were fresh and not split into the drummettes and the “safety pin” piece

Preparation

1. Combine dry ingredients in bowl. Juice the lemon half and add to spices. Add ginger and garlic pastes, followed by soy sauce. Stir until mixture is thick paste. Add small amounts of water as needed — you should have a spice sludge.

2. Take a large knife and make 1 slash in the drummette section and one in the other section.

3. Rub spice sludge onto and into the wings, making sure to coat all sides. Let wings marinate for at least an hour.

"IMG_7323"

4. While wings are marinating, preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Take a shallow baking pan and line with foil. Spray foil with cooking spray.

5. Once oven is heated and wings have marinated, place wings on baking pan, spray tops of wings with cooking spray, and bake for 45 minutes, turning them over halfway through. The wings should be a rich golden brown when they’re done.

Enjoy!

Use this spice mix the next time you’re roasting chicken for a different taste. I did a trial run of these wings using whole chicken legs and they turned out very well!
