So. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Let’s just leave it at that.

I’d like to say that I’ve been keeping up with the healthy eating and exercising, but that is so not the truth. It seems like quite a few people I know have been able to find something that works for them and stick to it, but meanwhile I keep struggling and end up finding everyone’s lost weight. I hope one day I can capture that spark and finally make something happen.

This morning I had a doctor appointment before work, and as usual I dawdled too long getting ready. At least I managed to make a quick protein shake with some whey protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, and a little bit of chocolate-flavored Horlicks.

After getting poked and prodded at the doctor, it was 10:30 by the time I got into work. I decided to skip a snack and just focus on work until lunch.

Today is the debut of my new Laptop Lunch Box! I decided to dig out my bento boxes since they seemed to work for me a few years ago. I gave a friend of mine a couple sets that I wasn’t using and then promptly used that as an excuse to buy a new one for myself. I know. But look how cute it is!

Lunch was a leftover Greek turkey burger (ground turkey, spinach, feta, garlic, oregano, marjoram, Greek seasoning and a little oatmeal for binding), baby spinach, some black bean, tomato and corn salad (check out the recipe here, there’s also a giveaway!), and carrot slices. I didn’t get around to eating the berries.

Instead of the Greek yogurt and berries I was planning for my snack, I ended up having a couple camera-shy string cheese sticks and some of these lime and chili almonds. Oh right, and a few squares of chocolate. Ooopsies.

I was starving when I got home from work and Mr. Spice still wasn’t home so I decided to to ahead and eat. I made pita pizzas using a multigrain pita, pasta sauce, shredded cheese, leftover sundried tomato and basil chicken sausages, mushrooms, spinach, some fresh basil, and then some crushed red pepper and shaved parmesan. These tasted as good as they sound.

The chicken sausages are SO good — I found them in the organic section at Publix. I discovered that you can bake the sausages for 20 minutes at 400 degrees and you don’t have to worry about cooking them on the stove. They even get nice and brown on the outside!

I had originally planned to have some ice cream after dinner, but since I had chocolate at work and I’m feeling like I won’t be able to stop once I start, I decided to try out a new-to-me yogurt.

I’ve pretty much switched over 100% to Greek yogurt – I just like the texture more, plus there’s more protein. I typically stick to Fage, and sometimes Chobani and Stonyfield. These seem the most “natural” of the Greek yogurts I see. It seems like all the brands are hopping on the Greek yogurt bandwagon, but when I look at the labels it looks like some are just artificially thickening the yogurt by adding gelatin, fiber, etc. If I’m not mistaken, Greek yogurt is just strained yogurt, so it should just have “yogurt” ingredients. That being said, I do get tempted by new and different flavors and back in the day I used to eat Dannon Light & Fit yogurt, so I decided to hop off my soapbox and give this a shot.

Verdict? Meh. I honestly tasted no difference between the regular Light & Fit yogurt and this “Greek” yogurt — it wasn’t thick and had an artificial taste. Too bad I bought a couple other flavors, having been seduced by the sale price. Lesson learned — I’ll pony up the $1.25-$1.50 for the Fage.
